I have duct work done in my garage so the central air and keep my garage cool.?
Question:I am going to go with a 12 inch duct and a 14 inch vent in the garage.
Think this will keep my garage cool?
Will it affect the cooling in the rest of my house?
Not counting the garage, I have about 1650 sq. feet and my central air unit is a 3 ton unit (15 yrs old)
When you factor in the garage, my house is about 2100 sq feet.
Answers:
a garage has more escape routes than staleg 13, so you had better insulate the attic with r-30 if 1 story, 2x6 walls r-25 and 2x4 walls r-13/19.
get flip vents for the wind to blow out only and try to regulate your usage so its cool when you want to work in there.
at your registers, make sure you have them to O & C when not in use.
Its better to let a little air out then to harbor the air and blow a seam in the ductwork.
check all the rooms in the house and regulate the vents accordingly, cold falls so start upstairs
Tickettoride laid it out pretty well. Figure out how to regulate where you want cool air, a flow vents are a good idea. It will probably stir up the dust some, don't be surprived. I also heat my garage with portable gas units and it has to be well vented for this.
