Yard sale question?
Question:i cleaned my room and realized that i have a lot of stuff that i don't need or want anymore (stuff animals, small candles, picture frames, clothing, childrens books, hats, purses, etc.) i've never had a yard sale or been to one. how much should i charge? and what is left over where is a good place to donate it.
Answers:
If you don't need them, I would price them low so they would sell. You can always donate to Salvation Army.
Charge what you think it is worth but be flexible. Salvation Army and many others will send a truck to pick up everything that is left, the contribution is a tax write off if you pay taxes.
when pricing think about : size
popularity
and how much you actuli want for it
find something you think would be idea
i mean small candles (dunno what you small is ;) =P ) but i can't imainge paying more then 10p
small chockable things go to babies = P
only joking
donate them to charity shops :) *thumbs up*
Good luck
Mr IP
dollar or so for animals, bout the same for candles
When you price things, keep in mind that you are not going to get rich and if you don't get what you want for it, you're only going to give it away and get nothing... for example, it's better to get $1 for an old purse, than nothing... don't be asking $5 and lowering the price later as most visitors will come first thing in the morning.
yard sales.yup.put out signs a couple of days in advance and start early (like 7am on a saturday)...people will be there early.
books usually go for .25 each to no more than $1
clothes no more than a couple of bucks each, blouses about .50
hats, purses maybe a couple of bucks.
the big ticket items are usually any electronics, computers, boom boxes, cd players etc...you can get considerable more for those items.
furniture is more (beds, dressers, tables, etc)maybe as much as $25 and up.
Be prepared.mark each item with a little sticky with the price and the people who come are experienced shoppers and will almost always ask you to lower the price even lower...so if you have something marked at $2.50...they'll say --"will you accept $1.00 for this".its a game.
As far a donating the stuff.salvation army, AMVETS, homeless shelters with mothers and children, a local church.
most places will pick it up at your home,
Good luck.
Knowing what to charge can be tough, I have recently had 2 yard sales and quickly realized that your customers like "make an offer" the best. What I did was think of what I would pay for the item and then advertise "make offer" or "prices are negotiable" This is a yard sale so be careful not to price too high or people will just leave. Stuffed animals keep cheap like 10 cents maybe 25 at most. the clothing and purses you could lump into price ranges.
Whatever is left over you could donate to your local thrift store, the salvation army, local orphanage, or womens shelter.
Good Luck
Before you have a yard sale the best advice is to go around your own area or town a check out the prices of similar items you have. This will give you an idea of what charge. Also go to a thrift store and check their prices. If you have left over items then you can donate them to the thrift store or a local church that helps people in need. Pricing is basically what you think the item is worth. Negotiate a little.
