Hey, they are water bugs, in the roach family too. I live in CA and had them come out at night. I got some bleach and poured it on the area where I saw them. Went away not a problem now. I think bleach kills everything, originally from Philly, please have a cheesesteak for me ..
Waterbugs. Very common in Philly when it's hot. . You can spray but they'll just come back in a couple weeks. Best bet is to keep things extra clean and just live with them. They'll go away after the first frost.
If you hate those suckers don't ever move South. The ones we have down here are like three times as big as the ones we had when we lived in Philly!
They are June bugs, a type of large beetle. The activity is normal in the summer.
If they are about an inch to an inch and a half long they are water bugs - they come out at night during the summer and you can see them running around on the side walk.
The only thing I can htink of to prevent them from coming up the steps is to spray a strong bug spray along the bottom edge of the lower step (where it connects to the sidewalk.
This will have to be repeated after it rains.
Ahhh, wonderful PA. If the bug you are refering to is light brown in color, they are June bugs. (some refer to them as stupid bugs because they fly into walls repeatedly and land on thier backs, not able to flip over). They are very annoying and seek out any light or heat source.
This is thier breeding season and rest assured that by the end of July, they should all be gone only to be back next June. It's just something we PA people have to deal with.
Keep a fly swatter handy and have fun whacking the little buggers and watch that they don't land in your hair...hard to get the bettle legs detatched from hair. (I hate June bugs!)
