Wood borers?
Question:I live in New Zealand, and am moving back to the U.S. soon. There seems to be quite a 'borer' problem, with the critters making perfect, tiny, round holes in anything wood. What exactly are borers? Are they different from termites? How can we safely get rid of them?
Answers:
Wood bees, they are non-stinging big fat bumble bees that munch holes in wood. Easy to kill them, just whack them with a flyswatter or some bug spray.
The wood borers I have dealings with were in popular trees and the extension agent in our county said the only solution was to cut the tree down and burn it. The extension agent was in Idaho County, Idaho. The borers lay there eggs in those nice round holes.
There is a wealth of info by doing a search on the INTERNET with Goggle/Ask/etc. Good luck
I have them, and they don't bother me. I also have a little help. The bee bores a hole and lays one egg. Every 2-3 days I have a woodpecker who comes and cleans them out. They don't do real damage, just a single hole. They also are helping to pollinate my flowers.
