If you hire a night watchman for your home, and he has a habit of dozing off, would you fire him?
Question:I would fire him on the spot, but my friend says she wouldn't as this night watchman is allowed to doze off, but as long as he wakes up when intruders come, that's fine. I think that's somewhat off. If a nightwatchman sleeps, he is negligent of duty. He is not watching the place when he is asleep, or even dozing. What do you think?
Answers:
what is the point of hiring a "night" watchman if you are going to let him doze off at "night"? then exactly what is he watching?
'YOU'RE FIRED!"
I would see if he actually woke up for intruders if he dozes off...if he doesnt have a gun or anything lol..while hes on the job just sit outside the home and test it out...break into the house (without damaging anything) and see if he perks up and is on key..if hes a light sleeper I wouldnt see the problem?
Find someone who will give you the service your money demands. I am in a service related business and I have no tolerance for crappy employees.
This watchman should be alert throughout his shift providing you the service you are paying good money for.
You must be kidding.. a watchman's job is to watch. One can't watch through his eyelids.
Of course, if I could afford to hire a night watchman, I'd be concerned about this.. but I'm not.
I would fire him. You're not paying him to "doze off". You are paying him to stay awake while you are asleep or away from your home. For all that, you might as well just do it yourself!
Hmmmm....yes and no.
Unfortunately most who hire a night watchman do not want to "pay" for a night watchman. So,. they usually wind up only paying for someone who does this as a 'second job', and may need to sleep while on duty. This is very common. Either pay him enough to stay awake, or let him sleep.
If you live where you need a guard for your home, MOVE!
Fire the guy and get to a place that isn't so risky.
I'm totally on your side, girl. This job is obviously not for him.
If you hire someone to watch...How can they watch with their eyes closed?I wouldn't put up with any sleeping on the job--ever.Day or night.
What's to stop the bad guys from doing the watchman in while he's sleeping? An electronic alarm is way cheaper and way more reliable than a sleeping night watchman.
The notion that someone needs a night watchman at a residence inspires all sorts of curious speculation. I guess we don't need to know.
If you like him otherwise, talk to him politely. Giving one warning that you need a watchman that is awake and alert the whole shift. Offer to put a coffee maker with condiments and refill at his disposal.
In the military penalties for this range from minor discipline all the way to jail time, fines and dishonorable discharge.
