How often should I water my tomatoes?
Question:I have them indoors in a small pot. Just started a week ago, they sprouted but since then they look pretty weak. I watered them about 2-3 times last week. Is that enough, or do they require more.

Tomatoes are really an outdoor plant, and are very easy to grow. They need sufficient water everyday, unless the soil is really wet, then back off the water. I used to give my tomatoes plenty of fertilizer, mostly chicken, as it is high in nitrogen, and they need plenty of sun. Try putting in a little fertilizer with the plants, and make sure they are in the sun...The soil ph should be around 5.8-6.0
when the soil feels dry . . when planting tomatoes bury 50% of the plant into the soil . . I only water my potted tomatoes twice a week . . . I'm in Texas and it's really hot here.
They should be watered daily and mature plants usually require 1 Gallon of water a day. If I leave mine for more than one day w/o water they start to wilt a bit. I listed one source for info and they also sell diiferent vegetable growing supplies. Hope it helps.
I never grew tomatoes inside. They need alot of direct sunlight. I water mine everyday I would transplant them and at least put them in lg. containers (if you don't have room to plant in ground) and give them Miracle Grow and put them outside. You can plant alot of veggies in containers in a small space even on a patio.
Small pots will not work well for tomatoes. You will need to transplant them and this could cause problems. I grow tomatoes outside in pots (14" diameter). I water a couple times a week with a good soaking. The pots have holes to allow water to come out the bottom to avoid root rot. I just make sure the soil in the pot is soaked well.
