I had the same problem and I took a old can of soup cleaned it out and put it into the ground open end up so the top was flush with the ground I put about 2 inches of beer in it and the slugs are attracted to the beer they fall into the can and they die. Seems harsh but it kept them off my plants in my vegtable garden. Try it out you can use anything to put the beer in just make sure they can crawl into it old coffie can will work to. You will have to empty it out every couple of days but its a cheap fix.

Put out several shallow pans (like a pie pan) about half full of beer. The slugs crawl in and then can't get out.
put a small tray with beer in it. they fall in and drink the beer and die.
Take a thing of Dial Liquid Soap and mix with water. Pour the water on your garden, plants, and where ever the bugs are. This will keep them off for a period of time. I recommend this process every 2 weeks (maybe more depending on rain). This won't kill them, but will keep them off of your plants.
I had a problem last year and used Safer's, Slug & Snail Bait. I will not harm pets, birds or wildlife and it worked well. No sign of slugs this year.
I use a product called SLUG-GO. I think it does a good job. Bought it from an online retailer. It is safe for wildlife and pets and plants.
My mother used to salt the slugs, she used to pour salt on each slug. they did die. this was done when the slugs were on the sidewalk. but i wouldn't recommend doing it near the plants.
