Can you use a window air conditioner sideways?
Question:I live in an apt w/sliding windows. The opening is too small for the smallest units I can find. If i turn my mom's extra unit on it's side, it will fit. However, I don't know if it will work like this. Any thoughts?

It will not work properly. Air conditioning units need to drop water and the coolant needs to flow a particular way. Some are so sensitive that even when they are positioned right side up the pitch(angle up or down) needs to be adjusted. If you have money to buy your own unit just buy a portable.

The oil for the compressor motor may not properly lubricate the motor if placed on its side and cause it to burn up. It could overheat and start a fire. I wouldn't do it.
Yes, just make sure the water is leaking off effectivly and not back into the machine.
