Answers:
i use to have the same problem. i live on 10 acres and i would have snakes everywhere. my advice would be guineis (spelled wrong ) they are a type of chicken that keep them away pretty good or u can get a cat, mine brings me dead snakesall the time.

I have heard that the smell of old fashioned moth balls scattered around will repel them. (An old country remedy).
Get a mongoose?

...they eat snakes.
Moth balls and ammonia works really well. And it works on all unwanted animals. But be careful using the ammonia, it can turn the color of your grass. So just put the ammonia on the sides of your house. but either one works really well.
Okay, first find out if this snake is deadly. If so get raid or something. Allthough it won't kill them, it will steer them away.
At the Local feed and seed stores they should have a product called "Snake Away" works great
be sure to wash your hands after handling product
contains Moth balls and some other stuff.
i would say get a cat or several cats and maybe a good watch dog. wild critters usuallu don't come around where there's activity going on. also get to know more about your area and what else might could be lurking about.
