Weed Problem!?
Question:When we purchase our house we removed two large trees in our from yard which took away all shade and now we have a tough time keeping weeds at bay, due to all of the direct sun. The weed that thrives the most is a chickweek that seems almost impossible to kill and control. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can tame this weed. I have tried Trimec and Weed b Gone with limited success.
Answers:
I'm not "informed" enough to know one weed from another, but I can tell a weed from the grass I had planted in the yard of our new house, and this year, with the increased rain, they're making themselves plenty known, so, I use a good ol' "tried 'n' true" method of getting rid of weeds. After it rains, and the ground is softened, I go out there and pull up as many weeds as possible, root and all, and then go dump 'em on a "high 'n' dry spot where they ain't got a chance of re-rooting and staying alive. I know that's slow and tedious, and with the heat, it can be trying, and not one of your most favorite activities, BUT, if you love your yard, as you seem to, you're going to be spending a lot of time admiring and mowing and otherwise "tending" to your yard, so you might just add pulling weeds to all your other activities you're going to do in your yard anyway. I live in a very green part of Texas and I can tell you, especially with this very wet Spring we've been having, if you stand in any one place too long, you'll have something growing over your feet and making you a permanent part of the geography, so, I know it's a "tough" thing to do (pulling weeds), and it's been made a very unpopular thing to do with all the chemicals and commercials to steer you otherwise, but it's the darned most effective method I've ever seen. I never stay at it for very long, and I don't think I need to since I do get quite a bit up when the ground is soft, and then I don't have to worry about what's the best weed-killer and how to apply it and how often to apply it and how does it effect other plants and animals. And, too, it gives me yet one more reason to get off this darned computer and go outside and stay healthy. Now that's a wild thought!! God Bless you.
1. Use Grass & weed Killer to kill everything is the small area you have problem with
2. After the waiting the time specified by the manufucturer, till the area 6 to 8" deep.
3. level / grade the area and re-seed. Don't forget to use starter fertilizer when seeding.
4. water the area, 2 time a day for the first week, once a day the next week, 2-3 times a week till the grass is established.
5. use spot treatment weed killer (weed-B-gone works best for me) to keep new ones in check
When we moved in our house our backyard was full of weeds... the chickweed i had to pull them out and made sure that the mat of roots were also pulled out and they never came back.
