Is it possible to "undig" an in-ground pool?
Question:We just bought a nice house that had a concrete in-ground pool. It was filled in 2 years ago with sand/sandy dirt. Would it be possible and if so, with what? (Back hoe, shovels, etc)
Answers:
It can be un-dug, but as previous answer indicates you do not know what condition it was in when it was filled in...Its pretty unlikley that you will be able to use the old pool unless the previous owners can tell you for sure that it was in good condition when it was filled. I would use hand shovels to expose the edges of the pool, then I'd use a Back hoe and I'd dig a pot hole so you could inspect a portion of the pool wall and floor. The get a pool construction expert in to consult. The good news is that if they filled it with sand then the dig will be easy.
It wouldn't be worth trying to save the old pool especially if it was pretty old. the weight from the fill dirt or ? probably made cracks in the concrete. You would be better of starting from scratch, but now you have the old concrete to break and haul away..$$$$$$$
Better see a pool contractor on this. If you are using any heavy equipment care must be taken not to crack or crush any on the concrete.
