Why is my fridge not cooling?
Question:We just recently switched out the fan in our freezer. Since the switch the fridge is no longer getting cold enough. There is minimal cool air entering the refrigerator. The only time we feel circulation is when we have the freezer door open. It doesn't make sense to keep the freezer door open all the time. Any ideas what is going haywire?
Answers:
you don't say why the new fan was needed. Could it be the problem you had before is still there. I assume you have the fridge temp set high.
Check the freon. If your fridge has ever been laid on it's side such as during a move or shipment, the freon will tend to poor out and needs to be refilled. The freon is of course, what keeps the fridge cold when the fan blows on it.
maybe the coils at the back of your fridge need to be cleaned, to much dust can cause problems with the fridge cooling properly,
if you have a new fridge that you bought within the last year you are covered under the manufactures warranty and can get the product fixed.
keep in mind fridges break the most in the summer because of warmer temps make the compressor and fans work harder. so if your fridge is going to break it will most likely be in the summer.
sometimes your compressor has alot to do with the freezer not cooling right. most new fridges built within the last 2 years have an enclosed system meaning the compressor and coils do not hang out in the back.so if you have this kind of fridge there is no use dusting off the back.
also fridges sold within the united states are NO LONGER made with freon since it is not enviromentally friendly. sometimes the coolant can be low and you may need to charge the unit. also if the fridge is not on level ground you can have cooling issues also.
keep in mind that fridges only are meant to last 7 to 10 years anymore. a fridge that is energy star rated that you buy now only uses the same amount of electricity to power a 75 watt light bulb so thats something to think about if your in the market for a new fridge.
