Scorpion in house?
Question:I just found a scorpion in my house. It really small orange spots on its back like little bumps. Are those its babies? How do I keep then from getting in my house. I have a 2 year old son that I would really rather not get stung by.
Answers:
I lived in texas for a few years and would find a few of these in my house every year. If you live in a new development that was put in where farm or grassland use to be you'll find more of them than if you live in an old development. Anyway, pest control, pest control, pest control. It cost us about $80 every 3 months to spray around the house, in the house, and the yard. Keep in mind you only need to do it from spring to it gets cold which could be anywhere from 6-9 months of the year depending on where you live.
BTW, those black spots were probably the babies. They carry them on their backs for about the first month and then they are on their own. If you want to make a game out of it with your son, get a hand-held blacklight from some place like spencers and go around your house and yard at night when it's dark and they will glow a variety of flourescent colors depending on their species. Some are bright orange, some bright green, some bright blue, bright red, etc, etc. You can pick them up with some long handled BBQ tongs and put them in a bucket or jar and take them for a ride in the country and drop them off. It would be something fun and educational to do when your son is a little older.
There are only a handfull of scorpion species in the US that are actually really poisonious and they are mostly found in the extreme south west. Most stings are about as bad as a bee sting and last about as long although for small children all stings could be life threatening.
pest control and management.
