How do you eliminate static electricity in a home or office.?

Question:I heard something once about lightly spraying fabric softener on your carpet. But it's been many years since I heard that and it seems to me that doing that would make your carpet sticky or tackey and might make your carpet get dirty faster. Thanks Folks!

Answers:
get a humidifier

Increasing humidity (room or whole-home humidifiers) will reduce static electricity and is friendlier to your skin, your sinuses and your furniture.

I wouldn't spray fabric softener- as it will give dirt and dust something to cling to/ dissolve into.
I mix fabric softener with water and spray on the carpet. Works wonders and leaves the house smelling great. It doesn't make the carpet sticky and it actually repels dirt.
