What can you do to get rid of a woodpecker (nesting on your house)?
Question:I have heard that you cannot get an exterminator to kill them bc they are protected in some way. Is there any way to get something that irritates them or in some other way just makes them leave and go elsewhere? Is there any way to get rid of them at all?
Answers:
Get an ultrasound-type transmitter. They work well if you don't have pets. Or try a fake owl posted nearby. Both of these can be bought at a garden supply store.
If the birds are raising young they won't leave and you'll just have to wait.
Birds hate the smell of sulpher, you can buy it most anywhere it will also keep snakes out of your yard
When I was a kid we lived in Central CA and we had lots of Woodpeckers. Mom hung an Owl from the roof in the gable end of the house where they kept trying to make a hole. It worked for a little until they got use to it. The only other thing I have heard of working was netting. The kind they use in aviaries to keep birds in.

Throw a rubber snake up towards its nest, that might scare it away. Also you can purchase a plastic horned owl decoy that really scares away smaller birds. Usually the eyes reflect light. Look for these in a farm store or lawn & garden section.

Get several toy rubber snakes (different color ones too) and place on the roof of your home. This scares most birds away.
