Home security?
Question:Any tips on how to secure my house?
I'm looking into getting an alarm system set up but not sure which one to go for & don't want to pay through the nose for it either, was quoted by ADT £666 plus £45 to the police & £25 per month for maintenance charges plus the bill for the phone calls if they have to call me in the event of a break in etc.
Answers:
666 for an ADT system... LOL how appropriate, at least they have a sense of humour over there.
I didn't realise they actually charge for making calls to deal with alarms. Over here there is a basic 25 buck per month charge and that covers phone calls out. The only extra charges would be police fines.
Installations and equipment between North America and Great Britain should be fairly similar. I would not recommend going with a large comapny just because they are large. Ask friends and business associates who they deal with. Sometimes a smaller company can provide you with a better level of service. Just be careful you don't end up with a fly-by-night trunk slammer. I would also suggest you stay away from anything wireless as the techonolgy is flawed.
There is some more information on security related topics on my website, feel free to have a browse. All things should be fairly universal... except we say Eh!
Good Luck
Can't help you. I'm in America.
how about a pit bull
That is a lot of money. Do you live in an area that has a lot of crime? Has your home been broken into before? In that case you might want an alarm system. Maybe invest in better deadbolts on your doors, some motion detecting lights for outside your home. Don't forget to keep your windows locked while away. A dog or a gun is good too. -- sorry, I don't think you're allowed to own a gun where you live.
