HVAC, how safe are the old units?
Question:my hvac may be as old as 34 years.
was asbestos used in those old units? also, inside theunit,"above" the removable filter, the insulation is torn all the way around and is peeling off and is very dirty.
(renter before me never cleaned anything).
is this a dangerous situation.
Answers:
No. I doubt it has asbestos in it . But if the unit is 34 years old, have the land lord replace it.
HVAC systems are like automobiles. The are good for about 10-15 years and then they just need to be replaced because they become nightmare to repair.
It will save you a lot of money on your electric bill if it replaced with something more efficient.
Probably not dangerous, but there may be efficiency issues. The newer units work better than the older ones, but not necessarily enough better to justify a replacement. Talk to a dealer or consulting engineer.
Make and Model of unit. Dangerous on efficiency for sure,
i guess you are refering to a window unit. i'm not sure about asbestos, think most are just fiberglass. if you are to worried, you may ask the landlord to lok at it and have it repaired or replaced. if it's 30+ years old it is very non-effiencent and would save you money to have a newer model.
