How do I get rid of fruit flies?
Question:I've gotten rid of my plastic trash can which has helped. I keep fruit in the fridge. I've made a concotion of apple cider vinegar, sugar, and dawn, and that's helped a little too. What else can I do? It's driving me nuts.
Answers:
AARGH! A problem for us, too!
- I use these fly traps (see first link)
- keep kitchen clean. Do not leave any sort of sticky fruit mess
- We sprayed kitchen with horrible stinky stuff that I hated. We also sprayed inside of trash can
- we took out the compost and trash frequently
- eliminate places that they use for breeding (see second link. Very good link!)
First of all, get rid of the vinegar and sugar, This is food and drink for fruit flys, Try this concoction. Mix a cap full of Bleach to 1 quart of water and put it in a spray bottle. Now remove the rotting fruit from your home(compost it you can) and wipe down the area wipe hot dish water and let dry. then it is good practice to spray the area and your counter and sink with the Bleach mixture before you go to bed let it dry over night. This is a food safe practice, it is also good to use after you handled meat products on your counter. be clean-be safe.
Fly traps that unravel downward and hang. They really do the trick!
