Need Help w/ Ants!?

Question:I need some safe and effective ways of killing ants..I have a small child and a pet. I'm afraid to use ant spray in the house and have sprayed bug killer around the house, but the little suckers keep comin in...HELP

Answers:
Ants don't care for mint or citrus, cloves or bay leaves, so think orange peel, peppermint tea, lemon juice, ground cloves, etc. If you can plant mint around the foundations of your home, you may deter them from entering. Vinegar has the same acid as citrus, so use it to clean with and ants won't feel welcome. (It probably erases or overpowers the odor trail other ants have left for them to follow.)

Clean bench tops and cupboards down really well, and then wipe down with a clean damp cloth that has a few drops of essential peppermint oil on it, you may need to apply a few drops of oil a couple of times.

Ants hate the smell of it and it is also environmentally friendly, and safe for humans and children, and no residue powders etc to clean up. And the big bonus is that the room smells fresh and minty. I also want to add that you can put the oil on a cotton ball after cleaning and put in the areas you have ants and that should help too...replace once the smell is gone.

I hope this was helpful,Good Luck! :)

suck them up in a vacuum cleaner. it worked for me.
Mustard powder or cinnamon powder works wonders.
Antibacterial Kitchen Cleaning spray does it for us. Just spray on surface and wipe off. They came in only if they sense food scarps or any sweet sticky stuff on the floor.
while bug killer is effective in killing ants on contact, it has no real affect on long term killing, my advice is to go the store and pick up ant colony killers which you stick around the outside of the house and the ants will take the pieces of "food" back to their colonies and literally kill the entire colony. As for inside the house the only real effective way to kill them and keep them out is calling the exterminator...good luck with them.
easy: get rid of the kids! haha just kidding. well, try to find out where r they coming from and just fill up theyr little hole with water, they'll die &stop bothering for a while.. you can also search for liquid venom that doesnt affect humans or pets.
Well there are a lot of products that I've used (as well as the vacuum).
There are sticky pads that can be used in the house (careful these are hard to get off animals) I've used them in corners.
Also..there is a sticky sause stuff.. "ANT BE GONE" i've used. This is easy to put in tucked away places. They take it back to the nest (great for outside...corner of doors, etc). The vacuum works to rid them but the babies will come back. They are finding a food source...clean areas with disinfectant..and use this "ant be gone" (you could put it in a shallow container (plate) in the house. GOOD LUCK
This "ant be gone" stuff worked great for me.even killed some wasps.
we have the same problem here at work, we cannot use sprays or powder, what we done was search for where they were entering the building and fill the gap,if possible place powder outside.

hope it helps, even if just a little!!
:)
I know you have children and pets but if you can put this someplace out of there reach it may help your problem. For ants on the counter top, wipe down counter top with white vinegar. To prevent ants from coming into the house, or getting into cupboards, sprinkle dried mint or red pepper where they are entering the house and in the cupboards. If you know where the anthills are make a mixture of 50 percent borax (sold in laundry aisle of supermarkets) and 50 percent confectioner's sugar and place near anthill. The ants are attracted to the sugar and carry the fatal borax/sugar combination back to the nest to feed the queen and other ants. Soon all ants will be dead. Do not put this mixture where children and pets can ingest it. To get rid of anthills, pour 3 gallons of boiling water down them. This is best when done when the ants are active and at the surface. Do not do it near flowers or they will die.
