They are real tricky.Pour some cayenne pepper in the trash on top. They do not like the pepper. Some say ammonia will keep them out...

a tight lid on the garbage can.
Set a boxtrap when he gets caught drive out in the country and turn him loose
Leave out a raccoon sandwich - sardines and D-Con.
I had to buy a long "tie-down" strap and run it from one handle on the can, over the top through the handle, and down to the other handle for possums.
Use metal or heavy plastic trash containers with tight fitting lids and secure it with a chain or bungee cord. You can also use a mixture of 2 Tablespoons Tabasco sauce per quart of water or plain ammonia to pour over the trash can to discourage raccoons from dining on your trash. Or best, keep your trash container in your garage or shed until the morning it is to be picked up. You can also use motion sensor lights.
You can buy a trap or you can leave some garbage in your neighbors yard so the coon will go over there and leave you alone.I trapped six a couple of years ago. It is illegal to let
them go in parks by the way.In my state you are suppose to
kill them when you capture them.I just do not have the heart to
do so.
