Will a plant root grow into a plant??

Question:Well i was just wandering if you cut a peice of root of a plant(in this case a house plant). And then put it in water. will and can another(of the same kind)grow into a plant.Or will it just float around in the water forever.

Answers:
It depends on the plant. Some plants can be propigated from root cuttings, like tuber or rhyzome plants. Ginger and potatoes are an example. Some do better as leaf cuttings like african violets. It just depends on the plant. Leaf cuttings for most plants generally work better. Take off one leaf with some of its petiole/stem left on it and place the stem in very moist soil. Water will work sometimes if you use fertilizer or plant food in it, but the plant needs nutrients. There are some products which helps cuttings grow one I know of is called ROOT-TONE. Its some plant hormones which helps leaf cutting establish roots and such. But as I said it depends on the plant you are working with.

give it a try & let us know
well, it might...but from my experience you can cut the stem off a healthy part, usually under a leaf or you can actually sometimes notice a smaller virsion of a vine plants hanging off.. place that in water, that stem will grow roots after a few weeks. It works best wth vines (like a spider plant) but other plants also work. try it out. now that i think about it.the root wont really grow if it is a high light plant. the root would not be able to photosyntheize (if thats a word) b/c it has no leaves. hmm not sure
