Need help w/ sewing machine?

Question:every time i try to start sewing the thread ends up getting cut. and i dont know why. please help.

Try this:
With the presser foot still up, use the handwheel to make the threaded needle go down and pick up the bobbin thread. You will want to be holding the needle thread at the time, have the needle go down and up one time only, then pull up the bobbin thread.

Now, put the fabric under the presser foot. Take the needle thread and the bobbin thread both in your hand and pull them backwards, and at an angle to the presser foot. Lower the presser foot, and both threads ought to be under it and protruding out the back.

Again using the handwheel, guide the needle again into the fabric and make one stitch, then you can start sewing using the controller (or treadle or handcrank, depending on your machine.) To keep things going smoothly after the first stitch, get in the practice of sewing onto a small scrap of fabric every time you are finished with a seam. This will keep the threads in place. When you're ready to sew the next seam, just leave a small gap between the small piece of fabric and the project. When you're ready to end the project seam, snip off the small piece of fabric and sew onto it again before cutting off the project piece.

I think it's just technique that you need to master, but if you think it might be tensions, read this link and print it out, and you'll have tensions beat.

adjust the tension
Adjust the tension.
Yes the tension may be too tight...but what kind of thread are you using? Don't buy the cheaper thread as it almost always breaks. Are you using a heavy enough thread for the item you are sewing? If you are sewing like a demin fabric- then you don't want to use a finer thread like you would on silk. Take a scrap piece of fabric that is the same as what you are sewing on and keep adjusting the tension until your stitches are where you want them.
Not only might the tension be too tight, but the bobbin could be put in backwards or there could be a burr on the shutle hook. Scrape across it with your finger nail. If there is a burr, use a knife sharpening stone to smooth it out. The thread may be old. Use a good quality thread.
