How do you get rid of common house ants?

Question:

Answers:
Terro works well if it's not a major infestation. If you really want to nuke them without puting a bunch of pesticides in your home, you'll need a bait like Amdro. These baits are a granular product you sprinkle around the outiside of your house that the ants think is food. They take it back to the colony (under ground) where they feed it to the queen and the newly hatched ants.

Amdro is a slow acting poison (insures they all get a little) that will destroy an entire colony in about a week.

Good Luck

Get terro. It's a liquid that you place on a piece of cardboard near where you see many of the ants and they take it back to where they live to share it. Presto. Don't do it if you have a pet though because it could die if it ate it.
Buy some borax in your chemist's.
Mix it with icing sugar 3 parts sugar, 1 part borax.
Put into a small container on the path of the ants.
The ants will carry it to their nest and poison themselves.

You can use the same method in your garden, and if you use something like an old handcreme container with a little hole bored into it (hot wire) nothing else will be harmed.
Hi god,

Well, I really thought you would know this already, but the first thing you should do is not wear ripple soled shoes around erm...heaven, because that gives them a 50/50 chance right there.

Amen.

(Any brownie points for that lord?)
Put bay leaves on window sills, entrances, in cabinets, ect...they will be gone.
The "green" or chemical free way to do this would be to crush fresh basil, mint and/or parsley leaves to release their oil and scent. Place them around both the inside and outside of your house. If you can find where they are coming in, make sure you put allot of the crushed leaves at that point. Then you can put the leaves around the inside of your foundation. This usually does it. Don't look for it to work immediately but it does work. Vaseline is also a good deterrent. Ants don't like the smell and they get stuck in the Vaseline.
Set bait traps
Depends on the type of ants. If they are very small and what most people call "sugar" ants, then Terro will work. For other ants a protein type bait will work. Most importantly, follow the trails to see where they are coming from. Most likely it will be a crack or crevice or something, then seal up the hole with caulk or glue. If they are coming through a window, sometimes spraying any type of ant spray in those spots will hold them off for a while.
Black flag has some ant killer that works good.
