You need to take that palm back to the shop and complain that they sold you a bad critter. Let them tell you what is wrong and what you have either been doing correctly or been doing badly. How do you know it is getting enough light. About fertilizer, let them tell you what and when they recommend. Probably no fertilizer now. Wait until you have the problem addressed and the plant has regained its health. No fertilizer will not turn it brown. So you have time before possibly making things worse. Don't remove any of the fronds until the shop people see it. The brown fronds are clues to what is going on.
Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. So really be strong about why did they sell you a plant in such poor condition? Ask THEM what are they going to do about it? They are going to ask you how have you been treating it? Your response is, "Just like you-all told me; this and this and this. . . .
Listen to their response. And since you know you are at fault for not providing the proper care. . . . then ease up. And ask for a new plant. What can they say? Yes or no. It's worth a try.
Oh yeah, crying helps.
