How can I block out the noise?
Question:My neighbors have some really loud and annoying kids, and they are always outside screaming and playing. When this happens, my 1 year old son is awaken, and it is really starting to get on my nerves. Are there special curtains I can put up to block out the noise or anything else I can use?

This is rather a common problem in today's society where we are all 'lumped' together. There are products you can buy, but it can be really expensive! And I am well aware of the friction that can arise by having a word with 'them' So you really do not wish to bring that down on yourself! If you are renting the property, perhaps your landlord might have another place you could rent from him, that's a bit quieter, But if the property is yours then there is little you can do that wont involve expense for you, except earmuffs! You have a good day.
A sound machine is great for blocking out noises. Using heavy curtains will help but alone they don't really work well.
The one solution that comes to my mind is to plant some quick growing shrubs between the two properties.
If you are in the south a lovely evergreen shrub/tree (depends on how you prune it) is a wax myrtle. They grow fast - as much as 5 ' in one year, are evergreen, pest free and look great. It takes a lot of pruning to keep them at shrub level, but I think it might be worth the effort in your case.
Oh..and one other nice thing is if you break some leaves and rub them on you they help to repel mosquito's.

The sound machine is a good suggestion. How nice it is to sleep to the sound of rain or surf rather than to the sound of kids yelling.
I worked the night shift, and needed to sleep days. We had neighbor kids, too. Also, often, my husband babysat our own 2 grandkids during the day. So, I lowered my blinds, pulled the curtain shut, and turned my 20 inch box fan on medium speed. Turned the fan so that it wasn't directly on me. Shut the door to my room. Never heard a bit of commotion, outside nor inside. Slept very well.
use empty crates of eggs. stick them on wall. use thick clothed curtains.
