What type of species laid these eggs?!?

Question:I recently found over 50 white eggs in the dirt while watering my plants. The outside shell looks leathery and it has a white root-like tail attached to it. The eggs range in size, some the size of a ladybug while other the size of a large grape. A few of the ones I found are ripped open exposing a jelly-like inside. I also found some in the grass with a red spongey material sprouting out of it. Im getting freaked out. At first I thought they were lizard eggs but after seeing the red spongey material I think otherwise. What could they be?!? Please help. I live in Southern California.

Answers:
I believe that's some sort of plant, not an animal egg. Possibly some sort of fungus.

It appears to be some sort of plant, probably a mushroom or fungus.
I looked and can't say i;ve seen these kinds of eggs. we had about 40 little clear jello looking eggs 'but i think mine were slugs eggs,,,,,,,good luck..
