Why are houses so much cheaper in the US?
Question:It's so unfair (person in the UK).
Answers:
Simply put, the US is huge.
I mean, you might think its a long way to your local chemist, but thats nothing compared to the US.
They have plenty of space, so land is cheaper per unit area than we can imagine. Hence, big houses, nice and cheap.
The UK is a small country, only so many houses can be built, therefore houses are dearer.
It's not always cheaper, right now there is a huge drop in market price, but eventually it will skyrocket again (think a million dollars for a two bedroom house)
it's not always this cheap, but the UK has a better exchange rate as well
Ready available land, large amount of wood available, large factories for all the various pieces that go into a house.
Very large marketing system and lots of competition to keep building supply costs down.
One major difference though is that you get a longer new house warranty in the UK and that also contributes to a higher price. Here in NA certain items (like roof shingles, siding) have reasonable warranties but not the new house as a whole.
Combine it all and you can have a house that is almost twice the size as in UK for lower cost. Nearly all houses in North America (US and Canada) include a car garage (or car port), both a front and back yard.
Because the land they sit on is so much cheaper. It's a matter of supply and demand. We have WAY more acres per person that the UK, (and no landed aristocrats monopolizing the acreage).
no one wants to live there
