What is the best way to root cuttings from osteospurmum?
Question:I tried rooting hormone in potting soil, rooting hormone in vermucilite, and just soaking it in water. Have had very little success, any suggestions?
Answers:
Propagation is usually pretty easy. Take 5cm stem tip cuttings in autumn, although they can be rooted at any time of year given the right conditions (bright but not direct sunlight and moderate temperatures). Always choose non-flowering shoots. It's advisable to use a hormone rooting powder or liquid, containing a fungicide to prevent basal rotting. The cuttings should root within 3-4 weeks.
We use vermiculite because it is usually sterile and reduces the chances of disease. Keep vermiculite moist but not wet. Mist the foliage lightly a few times a day for water and don't let the overspray fall onto your rooting medium as it will result in too much water.
