How do I get rid of rats in my home without killing them?
Question:My fiance is Buddhist, and against killing any other living being. I am as well, but I can't allow these rats to keep scurrying around! There has to be a way to get rid of them without poisons or other deadly chemicals, I just don't know it. I hope someone here can help...
Also, hiring an exterminator/using poisons anyway and not telling him about it is out of the question.

we have cats in home ..really thing ,that can help you .cause you no need to kill them .. but I hope Rats afriad that cats ..
It IS important to get rid of them because of all the dangerous diseases the carry, and leave with their droppings.
Get a cat. This doesn't necessarily mean the cat will eat them, but a cat will certainly chase them away.
There are live traps available at places like Home Depot. These are humane, but you have to have the guts to take them out to a field and release them. ;)

There are glue traps you can pour olive oil on the glue to release the animal in a short time that is harmless to the critter, and there are also live traps "have a heart" but you must use fresh bait like a small disposable dish of peanut butter or tuna where you can capture and release the rodents into an approved area check with your local zoo or department of natural resourses about where to release them because of the inherant danger from dealing with a live wild animal getting bit for example it is best to get a pro.
No matter what you do to be humane to these rats, they will just find a way back into your home. They probably have a nest near the home. If you do not kill them , then they will get out of control. Also do not let your husband tell you what to do, you live in that house to.
ummm. kill the rats, i am sure you guys don't follow buddhism to that degree if that were so you would never drive a car because thousands of insects (which are sentient, water is even considered sentient) are killed when you do so. your boyfriend is using his buddhism as a way to puss out of killing the rats, so suck it up put out some traps and kill them. rats carry disease, nasty nasty disease such as hanta virus. true buddhist are celebate also, so you guys are already breaking the vows of buddhism. you may have some buddhist beliefs but for your health and well being you need to exterminate them.
The five precepts of buddhism are as follows.
1. To refrain from taking life. (i.e. non-violence towards sentient life forms)
2. To refrain from taking that which is not given (i.e. not committing theft)
3. To refrain from sensual misconduct (abstinence from immoral sexual behavior)
4. To refrain from lying. (i.e. speaking truth always)
5. To refrain from intoxicants which lead to loss of mindfulness (refrain from using drugs or alcohol)
6. To refrain from eating at the wrong time (only eat from sunrise to noon)
7. To refrain from dancing, using jewelery, going to shows, etc.
8. To refrain from using a high, luxurious bed.
I hope you aren't eating dinner or sleeping on a mattress, because if so you guys have already failed at the buddhist mission. I myself have buddhist beliefs, but unless you are following this strict order you have no real reasoning to not rid yourself of the rats. ever heard of bubonic plague? it took alot from me to use a rat trap once, but in a civilized society you have to do these things to maintain order.

buy a 'SLEEPING HAMMER' from home depot (aka. 24 oz Framer).. ask a home depot guy for help.bonk the rats on the head,and they will magically be asleep.. toss them in the rubbish...they will re-awake on a different plane of existence and all will be well with your buddhist world!
Let me tell you - first these rats will eat your food, destroy your clothes, and then multiply like rabbits. The health department will condemn your house and move you into the street while they go in and kill the rats to protect your neighbors from the disease they will spread. Rats are nothing to fool with - get some rat poison and deal with them before it gets worse.
First you have to find how they got in to the house & take steps to block them out. In some old buildings this may be next to impossible.
Then trap them. But not so easy to get them all as they may breed faster than you catch them. If you trap all the adults there may be babies that will die because there is no mother there to feed them.
You can move.
