Bicarb of soda (poundshop) along their paths and in their burrowing holes. It kills them straight off and makes the other ants run for cover- elsewhere! Cheap and very effective, now give be best answer. LOL.
Any hardware store or country feed store will have it. It comes in a powder form, so look for it in a 5# bag.
In the laundry aisle of your favorite store. 20 Mule Team Borax laundry booster. Sprinkle it wherever you have ants, inside or out. (Vacuum it up indoors.) Kills fleas and other pests, too. Safe for kids and pets.

Check at your local hardware store, like Lowes or Home Depot, or even Wal Mart, in the patio department. Good luck- I've been through the ant invasion thing and it's a huge pain in the butt.
