Which Central Air Conditioner should I go with?

Go for the Trane. I'm speaking from personal experience because my company used to offer both. We dropped Goodman a couple years ago simply because the warranty work was not worth it. We spent more time fixing them than installing them. They're louder, they're less efficient and poorly built.
Examples: Goodman uses plastic caps on their service ports which are infamous for freon leaks. That saves the company pennies per unit but costs the customer hundreds in the long run unless they're changed out. Not to mention damage done to the ozone layer. Trane usues brass caps from the factory.
Most of the screws used to hold the unit together end up vibrating loose and cause a heck of a lot of noise. Try and tighten them up and you'll strip it making matters worse.
From a technical stand point, Goodmans are lucky to get an 18 degree temperature split. That's the difference between the air coming in compared to the air coming out. Trane will give you 20 degrees. That may not seem like a lot but it means the Trane will run less to get the same result meaning higher efficiency.
If efficiency is the main concern, the difference between the 13 SEER and 16 SEER isn't that much. If the house is tight, newer windows, good insulation in the walls and attic, tight exterior doors etc. you won't notice much of a difference in operating costs. In houses less than 2500 square feet or so it's really not worth going high efficiency, it would take forever to offset the additional cost
Bottom line is Trane is a better product. They also offer a 14 SEER that will still be cheaper than the 16 SEER Goodman and a much better buy. Keep in mind that the salesman is working on commission.
well the 16 seer is more energy effecient. but they are all the same size units. you are gonna have to let your pocket book decide. pay more now and less in elec. cost or less now and more in elec cost. Goodman and trane are both excellent products.
