Do honey bees nest in the ground?
Question:iv'e got a small hole in the lawn and have watched what look like honey bee's opposed to wasps, going in? not looking forward to cutting the grass next week!!
Answers:
Bumble bees always nest in the ground ... they are a none stinging bee ... and where as most other bees have been introduced ... the bumble bee is a native
I thought it was wasps and hornets that nested in the ground
In short, yes. We see them when outside sometimes. Be careful and don't mow over them.
No they don't but there are lots of different types of bees.
I've got one in the back yard in the ground too, don't worry about mowing the lawn, it really shouldn't bother them
I think yellow jackets will (they would look somewhat like small honey bees-- black and yellow stripes, wings, etc). Not too much fun to get stung by, either. DON'T run over that hole with a lawnmower, you will regret it.

no. they usually nest in trees or bushes. only wasps and yellow jackets nest in the ground.
I had the same thing a couple of years ago...I don't think they are honey bees but some sort of wasp.didn't do any harm.
not sure if they are 'honey' bees- but there are some bees along with some wasps that build their nests in the ground.
They have some stuff at ACE Hardware that you can pour into the holes. (can't remember the name of it) You do it in the evening when they are calm. And then cut your lawn the next day.
yes they do,we had bumble bees in our lawn and just avoided mowing over the hole.We were told that iff we tried to get rid of them it was a massive fine so just leave well alone they wont bother you.
I also have these burrowing bees in my lawn. I have never been stung by one and they don't do any harm. They are good for the garden.
