Any suggestions for organizing my children's room?
Question:I have an 11 year old and a 2 year old - both boys. The house I live in only has 2 bedrooms - they have enough toys for a dozen children. I have spent most of this morning going through their toys and have a huge pile ready to go to Goodwill and trash. Any suggestions on how I can organize the remaining toys?
Answers:
Put books, VHS tapes, DVDs, and board games on book shelves. Buy a mesh net that hangs in the corner on the 2 adjoining walls for stuffed animals. Purchase natural storage bins with plastic bins for storing yo-yo's, action figures, puzzles, blocks, coloring books and crayons, etc. For the 2 year old's toys buy a toy box with a bench and his name on it to personalize it for him. Under the bed storage is great also. Purchase Rubbermaid buckets that slide under the beds. This is especially good for the older boys thing that he doesn't want his little brother getting into. A bed with headboards that have built in shelves hold a lot also. Things that are your older boys prized possessions put on the top shelf in the closet where your 2 years old won't be able to reach them. Put your little ones toys on the floor in the closet where he can reach them. Wired closet organizers can be purchased at a hardware store, you can choose which ones work best for you by the things you have in the closet.
plastic storage bins. When I was a kid we had like 10 different bins (one for dolls, another for books, crayons.) plus after they are done playing, all they have to do is throw everything back in the bin, easy clean up.
You could get a big toy closet in the boy's bedroom(s). Put some shelves in the closet. That way, you can store board games and other flat or skinny toys on the shelves, and on the floor of the closet you put the bigger toys. I have this in my house. Good luck!
