I'd just like a rough estimate...?
Question:I'm looking to have a 3 ton Lennox XC21 ac unit installed in my house. I got an estimate of over $10,000. I am thinking I should get more estimates. I have a 1400 sq. ft. one story ranch on Long Island.Any knowledgeable advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am going through the same process.I live on LI and received numerous estimates on AC systems.
From Frigidare, Carrier, Trane, Lennox...
Anyway, I also have a one story ranch (approx. 1,200 sq. ft.).
After speaking with about 11 different companies (HVAC, Oil companies, Home Depot, Sears.) I decided to go with a Lennox dealer.
After researching the ____ out of it, I decided to go with the the XC21 (19.5+ SEER) unit...3 tons (they do not make a 2.5 ton unit in this model which would have been optimal for my size house). I was quoted a price just under $10k.
The unit is top of the line.Variable speed blower, and also getting the air filtration system with it (not the expensive Pure Air one). Also comes with a 10yr. parts and labor warranty. Other models and brands charge between $350 - $800 for the comparable warranty coverage.
Considering the high efficiency (especially when dealing with LIPA rates), 10 yr. cover all warranty, air purification system.the price seemed great. Other comparables were at around $8.5k-$9.5k for 14/15 SEER units (ie. Trane, Frigidare, Carrier, Lennox Elite series).
Go to the Lennox site and speak to the listed "Premier" dealers. Also, alot of the dealers will give you a ball park estimate over the phone (saves lots of time). That should help you with your search.
Best of luck to you.
oh yeah get more estimates
I don't know anything about large ac units, but that price seems awfully high to me.
That would be far more than we would pay here in MI. If you already have a forced air furnace, you should be able to add central air for 1400 sq ft for half that price or less.
Wow! Maybe its much higher in Long Island but I got estimates from $6,000 - $10,000 for a 3 ton & 4 ton for 2,400 sq. ft. historic home that had a lot of challenges. You lose nothing by getting more estimates - I called almost everyone locally before choosing a company. Good luck.
