Letting my kids plant sunflowers worried about squirrels and birds need help with keeping them at bay?
Question:i have a big squirrel population in my area and they eat all my tulips and now im trying to plant sunflowers with my kids. ive heard spray with dish soap but what do u sray and how often?thanks
Answers:
netting will help some what but they will get some but not all
i don't know about the spray but try putting tall and short sticks in the ground by the plants and tie aluminum pans to them, one per stick, the movement of them when the wind blows should keep most animals at bay. I heard something about mothballs too but, not sure for which type of animal(s) it deters
The best thing to use to protect sunflowers is to cover the head with nylon. That will protect the sunflowers from bird attacks.
sunflowers are more acidic than tulips, so you'll be safe from squirrels. when the flowers begin to grow, cover them with netting to keep the birds out. otherwise, teach your children about getting along with nature. this will ease frustrations and anger.
