Shouldn't you be able to fell the air coming out of the A/C fairly easily?
Question:The A/C has been on for a few hours but the apt. is not much cooler if at all. It doesn' look like the temp went down much on the thermostat. When I put my hand up by the grate I feel air coming out but hardly at all. And the air for that matter is not that much cooler than the apartment itself. What could be wrong, if anyting?
I knew somebody in an apt. last year who called the apt.complex and they had the guys come out and all they did was turn the thermostat down to 60 degrees and said, 'it's just hot out'. If this complex does this to me, is there any recourse?
Answers:
There could be a number of problems; lets go over the ones you can do something about first.
First, DO NOT TURN THE THERMOSTAT DOWN TO 60 DEGREE'S!! It will freeze up a/c coil. The unit must off-cycle defrost to cool for you.
2. If you have access to the air filter, change it often in the summer. ( plugged air-flow will add to a cooling problem)
3.If you leave unit running all day it will keep you cooler and really not cost you as much grief! ( just don't turn it below 75 degree's )
4. The best a working a/c can do between inside temps and outside is appox. 18degree's on average, if its fully charged and all else is working as normal.
5.After reading this turn-off a/c and allow at least 4 hours to defrost ( yea, I know its hot, but it won't work with a frozen coil !)
6. Finally, if you have followed thru and its still the same call the rental agent and complain about maintenance!!
Best of luck!!
Mine has been acting up too, not sure what the problem is, but I am in a house, and I turn it off, let it defrost, because I noticed it has ice on it..then turn it on later and it works good. Also I took a water hose and squirted from the inside coils to the outside loosening up dir tand debris, which helped for a week or so, but it keeps doing it, not sure what to do next.
