Crazy Squirrel in my garden?
Question:I live in the city of Chicago. I have a garden in my little yard with a few vegetables. There is an insane squirrel who ate my lettuce, and he forriges in the soil. Today I saw him doing black flips off the trees and floundering around on the ground, basically acting insane. I sprayed him with the hose and he left. Would it be wrong to shoot him with a bb gun? is it illegal? is there a better way to get rid of him? don't tell me to call animal control; they don't come unless a pitbull bit your kid.
Answers:
go to the garden supply store and ask them for a spray repalent that is made to smell the animal away. if that dont work ask for a trap cech him turn him loose in the park.
Coolest squirrel EVER! Dude, dress him as a ninja and sell tickets. I'd pay to see him.
What we do around here to keep squirrels away from our garden is to put up a bird feeder full of sunflower or other seeds in your yard. The squirrels will eat out of it more than the birds.. thus leaving your garden alone. If you have trees in your yard buy some dried out corn on the cob and screw it onto a tree. They will go crazy over that too... but that will only last for a day or so... The bird feeder will definitely satisfy its appetite.
My mom sprinkles hot pepper powder around her plants to keep squirrels away.
If it is ruining your garden, and you've tried other methods first and it still won't go away. Than i guess you could shoot it, it's only a squirrel so animal control won't bother since they are a common animal, like a rabbit or something. Do what you want to rid it, personally i have had squirrels at my old house, but they ate peanuts and wanted us to feed them all the time. We didn't own a garden at that house, so shooting it, or maybe put up chicken wire fencing around your garden to protect it.
