Ive recently repotted my Bonsai and its really grown out of shape and I need to trim is but I dont know how?

Question:Ive got some books but they are hard to understand do I trim just below a leaf or just above it and how far can I trim it down the branch? Its quite a young tree about 7 years old.

Answers:
100's of species of trees are made into a bonsai, it would be helpful if you identify the species when asking a question about it. Meanwhile, you might want to check the Bonsai Care page of my website:

You'll probably want to keep the original shape of the tree, and if so, trim any new growth where you don't want a branch to form.

Normally when you trim "prune" a tree, you want to cut below the leaf... or second node on branch
When you prune a tree especially a young one be sure not to cut alot of foliage of because thats how the tree make food. Then you want to cut at the collar of branches.
I cant exactly answer this one but all i will say is its fantastic that your bonsai has liked the move. Its a very good sign indeed as for cutting it I tend to cut my new growth so it can consentrate on the permanent growth.
i hope this helps.

pierce

ps mines a ficus fig.
you need to root prune it ... you can wire the new shoot to form new branches
