How do I lay a base for a shed?

Question:I want to build a shed in my back yard. I plan on using a kit from a hardware store but I have no idea how to install a base for it.

Answers:
It's hard to tell by your question whether or not the kit that you will get from the hardware store will have a floor with it.
Most kits do come with directions concerning a base. If the shed is put up over a base not suitable for the kit the warranty will be voided. I would suggest you do some leg work in advance and scout out what type of kit you will get and get the information regarding the base first.
Most sheds just require a solid base. The ground must be prepped and all grass removed which requires some digging and back work. A weed screening is put down over the ground. Many Home centers sell concrete block type footings that you must set into the ground and level. You must find out how many of these footings you will need. Hope fully it will only be 1 per corner. It all depends on the size of the shed.
If you need to build a deck for the shed then you will have to get a permit from your local municipality and submit plans. The deck must be up to your municipalities standards and local building codes. Hopefully you will get a kit that comes with a deck.
Good luck with your project.

You can get a contractor to pour a concrete pad for you. It will work out at about the same cost as paving with bricks or blocks and will be a lot more practical.

At the very minimum you should remove about 2 to 3 inches of topsoil and replace it with #57 stone or crush and run.

God Bless
I used 6x6 landscape timbers on the perimeter and filled it with 3/4 inch crushed stone and was very easy to level, you could also use a 4x4 if that would help your pocket book out, Good luck Les the painter
