What does compost mean?

Question:

Answers:
Compost is the aerobically decomposed remnants of organic materials (those with plant and animal origins). Compost is used in gardening and agriculture as a soil amendment, and commercially by the landscaping and container nursery industries. It is also used for erosion control, land/stream reclamation, wetland construction, and as landfill cover (see compost uses). Compost is also used as a seed starting medium generally mixed with a small portion of sand for improved drainage.

if your talking about a compost pile then its a decomposition pile where things decompose... So basically compost would be a fertilizer.
Compost is the pile of yard or bio-degradable kitchen waste left to decompose and be turned into a soil like substance to be used in the garden. It is full of rich nutrients (if composted properly) that vegetables, shrubs and flowers can get really happy on.

As the compost goes through it's decomposition, it builds up heat in the centre which helps to break down the waste. Sometimes it gets hot enough to kill off diseases and weeds during the process and if done correctly ... you've got some really good stuff that also conditions the soil as well.
