Are there any alternatives to halogen light bulbs?
Question:I have a nice halogen floor lamp that I'd like to make more energy efficient...are there any better light bulbs for my lamp? If not, I figure I'd do the earth a favor and maybe ditch the lamp LOL Thanks for your responses
Answers:
The type of lamp you describe would have to be modified to accept compact fluorescents (as was suggested by another answerer) which would violate the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) listing. However if you really love the lamp's style, looks, etc. then by all means have it modified to accept either an Edison base (standard) bulb or compact fluorescent. Either of these options would generate considerably less heat.
.led light bulbs. they don't have poisonous Mercury like florescent bulbs http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=a0geu96fbujg.f...

As far as I know, halogen floor lamps will only accept halogen light bulbs. There are more energy efficient alternatives out there. Many places sell fluorescent floor lamps for example.
If feel like keeping the halogen lamp, then might I suggest you use the dimmer switch (if available) and use only half-power. Also, get yourself a motion switch and connect the lamp to it. Then you won't ever forget to leave it on as it will turn itself off after you leave the room.
