How do I set up a trap to catch someone stealing?
Question:We know that this girl in our dorms is stealing but so far we have no proof that she took our things, though she was caught stealing something else. She has discerning taste. What should we do?

Obviously, the best way is to install hidden cameras. It isn't that expensive anymore. Once you've set them up, leave something nice lying around... and catch her on tape!
If you can't afford that, hide in a closet or somewhere else... leave something nice lying around and wait for her to steal it and catch her in the act.
The only other thing you can do is to identify something you think she may steal. Do it so she can't notice it. Once the item is missing, accuse her directly to one of the head honchos in your school. They will have no choice but to search her effects and person. She'll be caught. Make certain the item is something that she can't go out and buy at the corner store. Use a ring or someting that can be inscribed so.
And if all else fails, just remember that we reap what we sow... and one day, when it really causes her problems, she'll have something stolen from her... life pays back!
Set her up...put some cash out in someone's room, maybe kinda of hidden or sticking out from under a book and then hide a recorder/camera somewhere!
hide under a blanket and wait til she shows up! then when she does...have a naked pillow fight and sort things out.

Tell her that someone is stealing. She should lock up everything because nothing is safe. But you should tell everyone in the dorm the same story. Who is in charge of your dorm? You could report this to the police, tell them what is missing, and if it turns up in a pawn shop you will have her. Pawn shops must write down who they are buying from. Ask the police what to do, they may advise you. It will depend what she is taking. She may need counseling. She may be needy. Do you think she is selling the stuff. She may have a habit that she needs money for.
If it's clothing she is could be selling it. Jewelry she would perhaps pawn it. Food she is in need of help. Get your heads together and see what is the best approach for you. Before you call the police be damn sure you are pretty sure, before you accuse her. We had this in several clubs that I belong to. Garden clubs, she stole my plants, several they just stripped the clubs bank account of $$5,000+ the money was paid back.
