What is the right temperature to cool the house but not cause a very high electric bill?

Question:

Answers:
I had been told by my electric company to try to stay at 78 when at home and 80 when away. When I started doing this, I noticed a drastic change in my bill. Also, don't forget to turn the lights off when you leave a room. Don't keep a cell phone charger plugged into the wall if it is not being used either. (This actually goes for many other little appliances.) Ceiling fans help alot in staying cool without turning the air on full blast.

70 at home and 78 when your gone
Mine's usually around 70...a little lower at night because you're body temp. drops when you're sleeping.and lower when you're gone b/c you're not there to worry about it!
The recommended temp is 72. It is also recommended to leave it at a constant temp because turning it up and down uses more electricity.
Here's a good way to look at it.
Just cool the area's you want, and close the vents to the area's you don't need cooling at as much, eg., the basement.Have your return air only coming from the hottest 'high' area's as well, and again, seal the others.
That will do it! Set your own temperature preferance, and you will be only cooling a smaller area, thereby SAVING!
If you don't have one, I would recommend installing an attic fan. Attics can get up to 170F or more in the summer. An attic fan will keep the temp closer to 100F by pushing the hot air out of the attic. This will help your cooling bill greatly, and not over work your A/C
