Refrigerator temp?

Question:what temp. should I keep my refrigiator and on what number on ref?

Answers:
Get a thermometer from the store that will sit or hang on the shelf. Set your setting at the halfway mark and observe what the temp is and go from there. If you have a freezer on top I would put my themometer on the top shelf . This will help as the temp up there will most probably be coldest and will help you to avoid freezing any items up there accidentally. Fuzzy, do you own a fridge? Use your head. The coldest temperatures are going to be where the coldest source is, the freezer. I know cold air falls and hot air rises. That doesn't mean the air gets colder as it falls.

set at 5 then if you need it colder turn it up from there
34-37 degrees keeps things cold keeps food from spoiling longer and inhibits bacterial growth. Anything over that can ruin food overnight. Not all fridge numbers are equal. Get a thermometer and check it the morning after you put it in the fridge the night before. That way, you will get a true reading. Then check it again after the next days use to get a better idea of how cool it stays when opening and closing it during the day. Adjust in 1/2 number increments until it stays between 34 to 38 degrees.
And if your water heater is set at 160 degrees, turn it up to 180 degrees to kill all bacteria. 180 was the recommended setting to keep diseases from developing in water. 180 is too hot for 98.5% of bad germs to live. They CAN survive in 160 degrees or less and that is exactly why there are more sick people since jimmy carter said 'turn them down to ''save'' electricity'. It don't work that way! Turn them up to 180 to save lives.
j63301 or what ever is bassackward,, cold air drops so the bottom of the frige is coldest!! 34-37 degrees is a good number for the fridge,,,do not go by the numbers on the little dial!! your setting will change with age of the fridge and the amount of stuff put in it and the freguency of opening and closing the doors!!
