Your local home and garden supply store should have a ph tester
Buy a PH meter.

Any larger harware store like Lowes or good green house sells a test kit. They are only a few dollars.
You need litmus paper....or you can go to a swimming pool supply center and get their pH strips. Put some soil into a narrow tube, add distilled water to make a slurry and dip in the strip. There is a comparsion chart on the package.
There are also soil probes that you put into the soil, but they are affected by soluble salts in the soil.
Not all "peat moss" is the same....they vary greatly in pH, so you are right to be concerned...if you are growing speciality plants. Most common houseplants aren't that picky.
