Lot's of little house ants in kitchen----how do I exterminate?
Question:As far as species/ phylum, I have no clue. They're the little critters after food. Ant traps have NOT been effective!
Answers:
Go get the ant killer called, Terro, its thick like glue, you put a little drop on a small piece of cardboard or paper. Put it in corners where you see ants. Within a half hour you will see 100's of ants all around it eating. Then they all disappear never to be seen again. They take it back to the colony and they all die. Ant traps have never been effective for me either, but I guarantee you this stuff called Terro works. You can buy it most anyplace that would sell ant killer. It comes in a very small clear bottle.
Also, clean any grease or sugar stains you might have on the floor or counters, that is always a magnet for ants.
If you have a dog or cat, make sure you put it where they can't lick it off the cardboard, it is poisonous.
Honestly, I would look into the type of ant first. I lived in an apartment where they would come and spray for bugs. Our major problem was tiny little ants invading our food. They kept gettin worse. So I sprayed raid and set ant traps as well. Finally we found out that these type of ants only get worse when you try to treat them. What happens is they separte when something is sprayed and they make their own little colony. So that means tons more ants. Only certain traps work for these ants. They are called pharrow ants. I dont know if this is what you have...but do your research first!! If that isnt what they are then ant traps and raid should work. If your in an apartment, tell them.
they are prob either sugar ants or ghost ants, i get them also. I have found them in my bathroom (no food in there), but they wouldnt go away. what you need to get is an ant killer that home depot sells, it is in an orange box (cant think of the name off hand now), but you put dropps of this posion on little cardboard slabbs and place it where the ant trail goes. these ants DONT share food with the queen, so ant trapps wont work, they keep the food for themselfs. so look for ghost ant or sugar ant killer. also, borac acid in the light sockets may work. keep doing it for a week or 2 and seal all your food up in zip lock baggs, no food anywhere, keep area free of food, they will find it.
