Can someone help me with roach identification so I can get rid of these nasty little...?

Question:Ok, so we know someone that has German roaches and were helping them with child care. Hoping every day that the roaches didn't get to our house. Well...we have roaches. I have only seen one so far and it is dead, although it doesn't seem to be one of the "German" ones. The house is kept clean and is not messy so it should not be too hard to get rid of them. (I hope..) I used hairspray so that it can be identified and the appropriate actions can be taken. I have been reading descriptions and looking at pictures for about thirty minutes now and just can't figure it out. I found it when I went to use the bathroom. Here is the link for the pictures. For a size I couldn't find a ruler so I put it next to a AA battery.

(btw I noticed when I did a search on answers for roaches that a fair amount of people are flat out rude. If I get any reply like some that I read I will report it to Yahoo.)

What you have in your picture is The American roach (Periplaneta americana). It is less worrying then the German roach (Blatella germanica). From the picture it looks young so there could be others. The American cockroach likes damp places hence the bathroom. It is usually found near drains or inside them and near sewage. Try to spray inside the overflowing hole in the basin around drains and pipes and at the edge of windows leading to drains or pipes. Also at the Bottom of doors.

The German cockroach is more difficult to eradicate and is usually found near food, in the kitchen where it is generally dry and hot. A heavy infestation of German cockroach would lead them to invade even wires and radios, telephones, the motor in the refrigerator, coffee maker or in fact wherever there is some heat. Unlike the American cockroach the German also caries the eggs around until they hatch.

There is also another cockroach known as the Oriental cockroach but this has the same preferences as the American one.

What I have told you was from my knowledge as I used to work for a short time as a pest controller but you can have further research on the following websites.

Try to avoid bringing the German roach into your house by checking any luggage, bags and clothing when you come from the nursery.

First of all, *ewww* at the pictures! That made my skin crawl, LOL! I wish I could help you in identifying them but I just don't know. A roach is a roach in my opinion, and they can probably all die with the same treatment.

My only suggestion is to bite the bullet and hire a professional pest control service. We had a problem with fleas when we first moved into our house several years ago (*ewww* again) and nothing we tried ourselves would get rid of them. It might cost a little more to hire a pro, but you don't want this problem to get out of control either. That would be a real nightmare! Good luck.
What ever may be your roaches,
TRy this remedy - Mix one part of Boric acid (powder), one part wheat flour and enough milk and knead it soft aand place them in small bolls under sink or any placein KItchen etc and leave them for a few days and they are gone.
i am in australia and you may have different types of cockroaches where you are
anyhow it looks like an oriental cockroach to me.It doesn't look like a german cockroach.
it prefers cooler areas.often found in damp subfloors, under leaf litter and around drains and drainage systems.
thay feed on decaying organic matter ,so you can see them often around garbage disposeal areas.
keeping your house tidy is not as important as good hygine practices.Try to eliminate all possible food , water and shelter sites.
some sugestion 1 clean up straight after prepairing food {no dirty dishes overnight}
2 remove unneccessary water containers & check for leaking taps or pipes
3 store food in air tight containers
4 garbage should be keep in tight sealed containers
5 where you can seal all cracks and crevices
6 regular vacuuming of shelves and cupbords will reduce build up of food particles
if you don't want to call a pest controller..then you could try glue traps or bait stations both of which you should be able to get at the supermarket or hardware shop.
or you could spread powdered borax very finely to areas you feel the cockroaches are ..don't spread it to heavy handed or they wiil avoid it..also be careful where you put it you don't want kids or animals to get it.
another good method is to place saucers of beer over night .they will be attracted to it and dround.(but it seems a waste of beer).
if you have a major infestation a pest controller may be the better option as do it yourself methods usually help to eliminate or prevent the beginings of an infestation.
these tips should help regardless of type of cockroach.
