How do you make a refrigerator magnet?
Question:I'm trying to help my little sister's put something neat [like a refrigerator magnet] together for mother's day & all websites I check out make it seem so complicated. So, if you know something about it...fill me in! Thanks a lot! =]
Answers:
You can get small round or square magnets with a sticky backing on them either from a hobby store or a dollar store. Anything can be used to make a decoration that you could stick on the refrigerator. For a really simple one you can cut out a picture you think is pretty such as a flower or bird and glue it to a piece of cardboard then press onto the sticky side of the magnet. You could also find old jewelry and take off the sparklies and with white glue or using a glue gun stick them onto old puzzle pieces, stick two or three pieces together and press onto the magnet. If you get magnets that do not have the sticky side on them then just use your glue gun or white craft glue. With the craft glue you will have to give it time to set. Use glitter, colored ribbon, silk flowers, buttons anything you can find that you think would look pretty together. Don't make the decoration too big or heavy or it will fall off the fridge. Most of the magnets you buy for crafts are not that strong. One other idea for Mother's day would be to cut out a picture of your sisters face leaving a small edge around it for glue. Glue the picture onto thin colored or plain cardboard then either draw and color or cut out a picture of a flower, butterfly, horse, puppy, kitty or lady bug. Cut out a hole so that her face can be seen in the flower etc and then glue over the picture. Then attach to the magnet. You can do this with a red heart too and add the words "I love you mom!".
Try gluing a medium sized red pom pom to the magnet. Cut out tiny black dots from black felt and glue to red pom pom 2 or 3 on each side. Cut a thin line from the black felt and glue down the middle of the pom pom. You can make the antennae out of silk flower stamins or cut them from a thin black pipe cleaner. Then make a small semi cirlcle out of black felt for the head and glue the antennae with the head on top of them onto one end. You should now have a lady bug refrigerator magnet!
I hope this gives you some ideas that you can use to make your mom a gift she will love. Have fun.
Peruse the aisles at an art store (Michaels, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, etc). They usually have magnet making kits and stuff like that. You really need just the magnet, adhesive (a glue gun works best for pasting things that aren't flat) and whatever you want to paste on the magnet.
Good Luck!
