Question about woodlice?

Question:Every day I find woodlice in my kitchen sink. I remove them but no time later, there they are again. Do they come up the drain or fall into the sink? They are really starting to annoy me now. Any idea how I can get rid of them? I used to have a wooden porch which was starting to rot and there were hundreds of woodlice there so I replaced it with a concrete block structure but I still have a problem with them. Please help !

Answers:
This leaflet is designed to help you understand and control woodlice in and around the home.

Woodlice can be found in large numbers throughout Britain, they are a garden pest and as such do not present a public health problem, therefore Pest Control are unable to offer any form of treatment.

The appearance of woodlice in houses is often upsetting to the occupier but they do not cause any damage to property and no species of woodlouse can cause any harm to humans or pets.

As woodlice live in dark, damp places the biggest threat to their survival is the removal of these conditions which will result in them looking for alternative conditions and if they cannot find any then they will die.

If you find woodlice in your home it is likely that they have inadvertently entered your house during the night, as they often crawl up overflow and waste pipes; gaps beneath doors, around ill-fitting windows and through air-ventilation bricks. Once they have entered the home they are unable to find their way out and will die within a few days unless they find any cool, damp areas to ensure their survival.
Control

Woodlice feed on heavily decayed wood and vegetable matter and if you find that you have a heavy infestation it may be that there is an available food source and damp conditions adjacent to an entry point to your home.

The most effective method of dealing with woodlice is to remove the damp, cool conditions which they need to survive e.g. remove any accumulations of bricks, wood or other debris.

Dry out any damp/cold areas, e.g. beneath kitchen units.
Apply sealant to areas affected, i.e. fill in cracks in skirting boards.
Any gaps between woodwork and walls (i.e. doors/windows) should be blocked, as should any other likely entry points.

Inside the Home: Application of Crawling Insect Powders to any crevices suspected of harbouring the creatures should prove helpful.

Outside the Home: Use of a water soluble insecticide may also be applied using a watering can to drench the soil and paths at the base of the external walls.
Precautions

Whenever insecticides are used, read and follow carefully the instructions on the label.

Try to buy an insecticide that is 'residual'. This means that the insecticide is effective for a number of days after being applied.

Do not place insecticide where children or animals may come into contact with them.

Wash hands immediately after use.

get a professional in as soon as possible.
put the plug in overnight , if they are there in the morning, then they are falling in to it, get someone in to get rid of them.
You can get a domestic woodlice killer from garden centres and DIY stores but there are billions of the things in gardens so your never going to win 100%

Get someone to check the plumbing and see if adjustments can be made to stop them getting up as easily, it may just need a small adjustment.
