How often should i water do watermelon plants need?


Question:I planted 3 hills of watermelon plants 2 seem to be doing ok but 1 has died...when i pulled it up it seemed to have root rot so i was wondering if i am watering to much...I live in southern indiana and the soil seems to be clayish.any answers?

At the hardware or garden store get yourself a water meter. They cost about $5.00. You stick the probe in the soil and it tells you how wet or dry it is. No guessing. Helps the plants and usually saves water, we tend to overwater. Best thing you can buy for your plants, indoor and out.


give it a little compost, you can buy it at the store. You shouldn't water if it rained that day, and I'd say that you should water it every other day. Just make sure that the ground is saturated completely, You are going to have to work up the soil nothing likes growing with 'wet feet' as clay stays wet awhile... Also it might be too early for watermelon...Check the zone.(on back of package) good luck.
